Moody Blues

Updated: Jun 25, 2019

Ready to move over to the dark side? Dark blues are so on trend at the moment and it's the perfect colour for Autumn. Rich, dense and sooo sophisticated. Here's a few looks for inspiration or just to drool over.

Tone on tone - it's not to everyone's taste, but as long as the surfaces and textures are different, its a simple and elegant look. Start with teal walls, then place a teal velvet sofa in front with a similar coloured throw. Add subtle colour with grey cushions in different shades. the one on the left looks like a mole colour, and looks perfect. All Neptune

Navy blue panelled walls give this room a library feel, especially with all of the mismatched, eclectic accessories. It looks like a traveller's study of curated finds. The teal velvet armchair has a 50's feel with its spindly legs and the faux plants all add to the overall mix. Fab. All Debenhams

If you don't like the dense look of solid blue, but love the colour, use a wallpaper with a blue ground, like Pulse Star Geo from Wallpaper Direct, that has a gold pattern overlay to add subtle shine, then use gold as your accent colour in the furniture - the side table, stunning starburst mirror and striped cushion. Loving the cream and gold bow tie floor lamp and overhead glass pendant, both Pooky.

Lightning strikes - on this statement wall. Easy to do if you have a steady hand, and a dramatic look in a bedroom. You wouldn't think teaming dark blue with wine should work, but it looks rich and striking, an inspired combination. Crown Paints

This wallpaper keeps popping up on my feed, I just love it. Its similar to Nordic Dawn from Feathr. Not dark blue exactly but the furniture is! The smoky colours of the wallpaper are the perfect backdrop to a royal blue sofa, sitting on a jade carpet with a royal blue rug on top. Layering complementary shades that look fantastic. A bit more of a country feel here with a rustic, blue painted, feature wall, leaving the other walls cream to keep it light, but anchoring the colour with the dark curtains. The blue painted modern mantel is a great idea and the mid-Century style, pale wood furniture adds the perfect country but modern, cosy feel. All John Lewis

What a great colour combination! If you want something to stand out, set it against a deep coloured wall, and this combination of poster paint blue walls and a stunning yellow velvet bed is spot on. Build up the look with deep blue and yellow cushions and that blush pink throw is a stroke of genius. Audrey king size bed in Canary Sofa.com

Dark blue kitchen units and matching dark blue walls look stunning, especially when they are broken up with on-trend geo marble wall tiles and white worktop. Copper adds the finishing touch in pendants and the door handles British Ceramic Tile

I love this shot, who needs art when you can use a wall mural instead? Deep tones but with fantastic overblown florals for a painterly feel, this Vase Of Flowers mural is from Surface View - the perfect foil for the retro, teal velvet sofa in the foreground. The pinky coral shades picked out in the cushion and pouffe add a pop of colour. Harper sofa in deep turquoise matt velvet Sofa.com
