70's Vibe - Rattan

I must admit it's a trend I never thought I would see again, but its come back around and found a whole new audience, and surprisingly, I like it! Its light, with fun touches and quirky pieces, so whether you embrace the whole look with furniture or just buy a few accessories, its a great summer look with a boho vibe. It works really well with monochrome too. (I bet you wish your Mum/granny had kept all hers now, don't you)

A relaxed living room with pale pink walls, funky lighting and that mad gold plant. Add lots of floor cushions for the perfect 70's Saturday afternoon vibe.

Rio Rattan Day Bed, £595, Mexicana pouffe, £185, Kula grass pendant light, £95 and wall light, £55, all Graham & Green

Go the whole nine yards, starting with a tropical wall mural but in monochrome - find similar from Trouva - then add a sofa made from huge floor cushions, Moroccan-style textured rugs in black and white, a sling chair, string wall art and rattan lampshades. Matara 2 seater cotton day bed, £379, rattan pendants from £2.50 all Maisons du Monde

If its just a touch you want, place a rattan armchair in the corner of a neutral room and include a lampshade and box/coffee table in the same material for a neat little set up, add a textured cushion in black and white and a shaggy fur rug. Rattan wing chair, £275, lampshade from £100, Baro cushion, £55 all Cox & Cox

Now this really is a blast from the past, a rattan bed frame. It gives a light look with a definite 70's feel and works perfectly against a retro jungle leaf wallpaper. Dress the bed with embroidered bedlinen and a peasant floral cushion. Justina Blakeney Ara bed frame, from £1348, Anthropologie

Rattan dining chairs are a good way to add this style into your home, they are light in feel and look, so good in a small space, and would also work well outside. Rattan dining chairs, £245 each and in 3 colours, Ciel Shop

Create a boho seating area with 2 rattan armchairs and a couple of tables. Include a rattan pendant shade and floor lamp and you've set the scene - imagine you are at your retreat in Ibiza! French cane chair, £395, webbed chair (in sale) now £153, coffee table, £295, Pendant light, £175, wooden slats floor lamp, £ 200 all French Connection

The epitome of 70's style - the hanging egg chair, as seen is lots of dodgy movies from that era. Perfect in an inside/outside space like this. Don't forget cushions, preferably in a jungle print ....oh and lots of big plants to set the scene. Perfection wood-effect vinyl in Sintra, £18.99 sq.m. Carpetright

A different version of the egg chair, on a frame so its not fixed to the ceiling, and with a tailored cushion, so a LOT more comfortable. Again perfect on a verandah or similar and surrounded by lots of greenery. John Lewis

And of course its the ideal furniture for a patio (another throwback to the 70's) I can't believe how retro this looks. I think Roger Moore should be sitting here in a pressed safari suit and cravat.....Calamus rattan garden bench, £489, coffee table, £379 La Redoute

And relax...isn't this a calming scene? Just a bench, cushion and throw and a variety of lanterns.

A by Amara rattan bench, £275, lanterns from £58, all Amara
