Make Your Bedroom Into Your Special Place

I don't know about you, but during the lockdown, I have been spending a hell of a lot of time in my bedroom. Laying in bed in the morning, scrolling through social media, reading, watching tv on my laptop, generally being a bit of a sloth. So it's more important than ever that your bedroom feels like a haven of calm, and it needs to be clean too!

Declutter And Clean

So, before you can get it clean, you have to clear the clutter, so use this time to throw things out that you don't use or to make the room look messy. I know its difficult with all the local tips being closed, but just making small changes to the tidiness will make a difference. Or if you have furniture items you love but no longer work in the room, or you are tired of, think about self storage service Then once its clearer, give it a good clean, including all the place you don't normally bother with - you know where I mean - move the bed and hoover beneath it, dust the tops of pictures and skirting boards and clean the windows, the nice weather we have had recently really shows up the dirt and prevents you from enjoying the view. Then once its clean, you can make a few small changes to turn it into your little escape.

Add Natural Elements Change the bedlinen, it always makes me feel better getting into newly-washed bedding, especially if you've been able to dry it outside. And if you can, choose natural materials such as 100% linen or cotton, The Secret Linen Store and Piglet in Bed both have beautiful linen bedlinen. And use cotton or wool-filled duvets and pillows, The Wool Room and Woolow have good ranges - you will get a much better night's sleep. Then add plants or a vase of fresh flowers or leaves from the garden - guaranteed to lift your spirits.

Bring Colour In

If you have a plain carpet or if its stained (like mine is) think about adding a rug in a bright colour or pattern to bring the room alive, and add new cushions in bright colours for an instant lift that doesn't cost a lot, or if you are feeling creative you could make your own to fill the time. I have been sewing recently, something I don't normally have time for, I have even been teaching my daughter the basics too, another good wellbeing tip.

Scent The Room

If you have been saving a special candle or room spray, now is the perfect time to use it! Burning a wonderfully fragrant candle is an instant mood-enhancer, or spritz the room with room spray or pillow mist for a quick pick-me-up. My favourites are by Jo Malone, Diptyque and Neom.

I hope this mini feature helps, to use this quarantine period to make the most of your bedroom, adding little touches that make all the difference to help us get through this strange time. Stay safe everyone.
